Things to Consider When Using a Garbage Disposal
- Never let garbage accumulate inside the appliance. Collect your garbage in the sink. First, pour the water into the appliance, then turn it on and then throw it inside. If you let your garbage disposal accumulate before it's running, it will become full of garbage, making it difficult to start, and will subsequently consume additional energy and water. Do not turn off the appliance and the water supply until all the garbage inside the disposal is completely ground.
- Garbage disposal devices are designed to grind pre- and post-meal vegetable, fruit, meat, and fish scraps. (Çöpmak brand devices, thanks to their powerful blades, can also grind bones and olive pits.) Never put industrial waste like metal, glass, paper, or plastic into your garbage disposal. To minimize this, you can use protective magnets and metal strainer accessories.
- Push the garbage into the garbage disposal using a wooden spoon or a garbage pusher.
- Use the garbage disposal with warm or cold water. Keep in mind that excessively boiling water may damage the rubber seals of the device.
- Never use chemicals like vitriol, hydrochloric acid, bleach, or sink cleaner to clean your garbage disposal. Grind citrus peels like lemon and orange peels to clean your garbage disposal. The glucose, fructose, sucrose, and amino acids found in citrus waste not only clean the inside of your disposal but also create a pleasant scent in the kitchen.
